First Day of Summer

In Iceland, the anticipation for summer is a perpetual wait, often extending throughout the season itself. The culmination of this eager anticipation occurs on the first Thursday after April 18th each year when we celebrate the official first day of summer in Iceland, regardless of the prevailing weather. A longstanding tradition on this day is the giving of a "summer gift" or sumargjöf.
